World of Warcraft Sat October 25 2008 Submitted by SWATJester
Two weeks ago, Blizzard confirmed that there were some rudimentary microtransaction features being implemented into World of Warcraft, mainly involving a paid character customization service. They did, however, refrain from going into detail. Shortly thereafter, at BlizzCon, they announced that Starcraft II was going to be split into three different games, one for each racial campaign, with each game being a stand-alone installment.

Is this the sign of a new model that Blizzard is going to pursue? One that is more based on microtransactions, and multiple installments and expansion packs? Many gamers would view →

Most of us think no more about internet connectivity beyond "does it work when I click on it?". For many, phrases like multiplexing, peering, or managed hosting are meaningless. We visit our favorite sites, play our favorite games, and send our emails and IM's around the globe. We buy and sell, attend class, and much more -- just wanting a smooth, safe, and uninterrupted internet experience.

For businesses, governments, educational and medical institutions reliable and secure connectivity isn't only desirable, it's a necessity. Helping to ensure this becomes reality is Terremark Worldwide. Founded in 1980, Terremark today is a global leader in providing the IT infrastructure that brings to us what we know as 'the internet'. Datacenters in the United States, Europe, and Latin America combined with more than 160 global carriers provide the network connectivity critical to not only to businesses or governments, but today's internet users everywhere.

Creating a successful computer or console game in today's world requires not only the 'new idea', quality storyline, and other obvious shiny thing that attract us to new releases; companies today are faced with many back-end development issues that did not exist just a few years ago. Independent developers and the big names in the industry alike are faced today with the task of reaching an audience that has spread to multiple platforms. Xbox 360™, PlayStation®3, Wii™ - and the list goes on.

For any developer this brings a slew of new headaches. Designing the effects for each platform has typically increased development time substantially and has made managing assets a nightmare. Until now.  →

Consider that just over two weeks ago,  Warhammer reached the 500,000 player mark. By these metrics, it is quite likely that Warhammer will have around 1.25 million players by the end of the year, and certainly at least →
